The Naxian Sphinx, also known as the Sphinx of the Naxians, is now on display at the Archaeological Museum of Delphi and stands 2.22 meters high. It represents a mythical creature with a woman’s head, a chest and wings made from distinctive feathered prey bird wings that point upward, and a lioness’s body. Originally, the Sphinx was placed atop a 10-meter column with one of the earliest Ionic capitals, and it stood beside the Temple of Apollo in Delphi, the ancient Greek spiritual center, around 560 BCE.
